This is a tale of "two roads" Beginning at I-25 - Exit 111 pick up CO. Hwy. 50W. where you will ride thru Canon City and the Big Horn Sheep Canyon, over Monarch Pass thru Salida and Gunnision, CO. Just outside of Gunnision is the turn off for CO. Hwy. 149S. this heads thru Lake City and up over Smugullion and Spring Creek Pass (known as the Sliver Thread scenic byway) down thru the hamlet of Creed, CO. to pick up CO. Hwy. 160 and head towards Durango, CO. to stay the night.
Take Hwy. 550 N. (Million Dollar Highway) over Red Mountain Pass thru Ourary and Sliverton (one of the 10 best roads in USA), continue up 550 to Delta, CO., Pick up CO. Hwy. 92. ride to the Hamlet of Hotchkiss, CO. continue on Hwy 92 S. This will take you to Crawford, CO., stop and check out the Mad Dog Ranch Fountain Cafe, owned by Joe Cocker the Rock Singer and his motorcycling wife Pam. Continue south on 92, this road hangs on the backside of the Black Canyon of the Gunnision, with some impressive look out points going 1000ft. down into the canyon!! :) 92 comes out back on CO. hwy. 50, thru the Blue Mesa Res. (bridges over the water are a hoot), This is a ride to "smell the roses" on and enjoy.
