Special Note from the Site Coordinator

Welcome to the Minnesota Regional SS1K Ride webpage.
I hope you will consider taking part in our multi state SS1K Ride.
We have planned this ride for the enjoyment of experienced long distance riders as well as those riders who have the desire to dip a toe and get their feet wet in the sport of long distance riding.
With this in mind, I have developed a finishing goal and route that while challenging, will be enjoyable, scenic, and very attainable by riders of a variety of skill level.

YOU WILL BE RIDING IN SIX DIFFERENT STATES!

Brett Donahue and his staff at Donahue Harley-Davidson have offered to open the shop 3 hours earlier than normal for this Regional SS1K Ride.
A big thanks to them for their support as well.
We will have bottled water, juice, coffee, and rolls before the riders depart and use of the washroom facilities.

Responsiblity to Report

The MTF and IBA are dedicated to SAFE long distance riding.
If at anytime during the ride you question whether or not you should continue, by all means you should terminate the ride.
Listening to your body is an important part of long distance riding and you should not continue unless you are comfortable with your physical and mental state.

If you terminate the ride or have an accident, you must notify the Site Coordinator as soon as reasonably possible.
If you complete the ride, you should check in with the site coordinator immediately.

Failure to report at the end of the ride or in the event of termination may result in suspension from future MTF Events.

Departing Saint Cloud SS1000:

  • Site Coordinators will start manning the check-out table at 5:30 am at the Donahue Harley-Davidson on Saturday, June 11, 2005.
  • The Riders will be released once their witness form is completed. Riders will be released a couple at a time. We do not want riders riding in a pack for safety reasons. Our goal is to get all riders out by 6:00am and release the witnesses by that time.
  • If you arrive at the staging area after 6:00 am, you will not be counted as part of the ride.
  • Have your witness form filled out and your odometer reading recorded. The witness should simply have to fill in the time, their personal information, and sign the form. Do your final T-CLOCK inspection before getting the witness signature.
  • When you are ready to go, advise one of the witnesses. They will validate your odometer reading and license plate number; and add the time and their personal information to the witness form.
  • When you are released from the staging area, you are expected to go directly to the get your gas receipt.
  • Plan accordingly. Eat breakfast before staging.
  • Gas up and get a receipt at: Super America Gas station, 2200 W Division St, Saint Cloud, MN 56301
    * * * THE GAS RECEIPT'S COMPUTER TIME STAMP WILL BE YOUR OFFICIAL STARTING TIME * * *
  • You are off on the Saddle Sore 1000. Ride safe, don't push your limits, and most of all enjoy your ride.
  • Riders have up to, but no more than, 24 hours to complete the SS1000 ride using the approved route and obtain an ending computer printed gas receipt with a date and time stamp at the receipt at: Super America starting/ending gas location.

    Details of Start and Finish:
Click here for map of Saint Cloud Start

You MUST pick up receipts at the following stops in order to validate the corners of the approved route:
Some IBA riders get two receipts at Start, Finish and each Mandatory Stop. It is a lot easier to get both a gas receipt and a receipt for snack/water at important stops than to repeat a ride because a receipt went missing. Many IBA riders store their receipts in a waterproof, zip-sealed plastic bag.
The mandatory stops include (Click link for map view):
Stop #1 = Start Timing = Super America Gas station, 2200 W Division St, Saint Cloud, MN 56301

Stop #2 = Sparta, WI = Kwik Trip, 630 S Black River St, Sparta, WI 54656

    Stop #3 = Sheldon, IA = Kum & Go, 504 2nd Ave, Sheldon, IA 51201

Stop #7 = Finish Timing = Super America Gas station, 2200 W Division St, Saint Cloud, MN 56301

Returning from the Saint Cloud SS1000:

  • Once you return from your ride, you are required to obtain a gas receipt at the Super America.
    * * * THE GAS RECEIPT'S COMPUTER TIME STAMP WILL BE YOUR OFFICIAL ENDING TIME * * *
  • You can stop the panic. Your official time has been recorded on your receipt.
  • Waiting until our witnesses are available will not affect the certification of your ride.
  • Site Coordinators will be manning the check-in table from 10:00pm June 11th until 6:30am June 12th.
  • Please call the Site Coordinator to arrange an earlier check-in if you will arrive before 10:00pm.
  • If you arrive at the check-in table after 6:30am on June 12th, you will not be counted as part of the ride.
  • You must turn in your completed documentation (Witness forms, Stop Log, and Gas Receipts) to the Site Coordinator at the completion of your ride. If you do not turn in your documentation, you will not be counted as part of the ride.

    Important Safety Information

    1. Read the Frequently Asked Questions on the MTF Regional SS1000 Home Page at http://www.mctourer.com/rides/2005SS1000/index.htm

    2. What are the rider's responsibilities?

Riders will be required to acknowledge their responsibilities during the registration process. Each rider is responsible for their own ride. The MTF is helping with the logistics by planning a route and arranging for witnesses; however, the rider is responsible for the ride. Safety is of primary importance.

      • Participant agrees to keep and maintain his motorcycle in a good and safe condition, in full compliance with all rules and laws governing such vehicles. Specifically, said motorcycle shall be in full compliance with any and all safety inspections and certifications required by the State of registration of said motorcycle and shall be safe to operate on the public ways and under the conditions to be encountered in the Event.
      • Participant will at all times while riding his motorcycle wear and employ all such safety clothing and gear including, but not limited to, a DOT approved helmet, as is reasonable, customary and prudent for use by motorcyclists under the circumstances of the Event. A DOT approved helmet shall be worn at all times while Participant is riding in the Event whether or not the use of such a helmet is required in the jurisdiction in which the Participant is riding.
      • Participant shall be licensed to operate a motorcycle in his State of residence and authorized to legally operate a motorcycle in the State or States, Country or Countries where the Event may be held. Participant's motorcycle shall be properly registered and licensed.
      • Participant shall have and maintain in full force and effect liability insurance and such other insurance as may be required for the operation of a motorcycle in the State or States, Country or Countries where the Event may be held.
      • Participant shall comply with any and federal and State laws including, such as but not limited to, all safety rules, traffic laws and rules of the road.
      • Should Participant be given a map or route information as part of the Event, Participant shall use such map or route information at his own discretion and will not rely upon said map or route information as a representation that it is safe or prudent to follow such map or route information. Such decisions shall be and remain in the sole discretion of Participant.
      • Each Participant is responsible for his own ride. The MTF helps with the logistics by planning a route and arranging for witnesses, however, the Participant is responsible for the ride. Safety is of primary importance.
      • The Participant is responsible for terminating his participation in the Event if he feels that continuing would put himself or others in jeopardy.
      • The Participant is responsible for his personal condition. The MTF does not condone nor will it tolerate riding under the influence of alcohol, illicit drugs and even some prescription drugs.
      • The rider is responsible for reviewing the Motorcycle Safety Foundation "You and Your Motorcycle: Riding Tips" booklet
      • The rider is responsible for reviewing the Motorcycle Safety Foundation "Motorcycle Operator Manual" booklet

If the MTF discovers that a rider has violated their responsibilities, even if it is after the ride is certified, the MTF will notify the IBA and the certification will be revoked.

    3. The rider is responsible for doing TCLOCK!

T-CLOCK is a mnemonic developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation for assisting you in doing a comprehensive pre-ride (or a pre-purchase) inspection of a motorcycle. It is easily memorized and very useful. The individual letters stand for the specific areas to check:
