Western Mountain Ride
|
This is the one run everybody will want to do at least part of. It's a legend. Over 77 miles of corners to carve alongside the Lochsa River on U.S. 12 in Idaho. If you don't want to do this whole ride, just run out west on 12 as far as you want (but try to get at least as far as Kooskia if you can).
If you have the time, make the loop through Orofino and Grangeville (you don't need to go all the way to Lewiston).
BONUS LEG! ID 14, which you will pick up just east of Grangeville after travelling down a rapid descent of switchbacks, is a 50 mile (each way) road that will take you to Elk City. It's a spectacular road with even more exciting corners than 12. Make every effort not to miss it! It borders the South Fork of the Clearwater River.
This would be a great ride on which to pack a picnic lunch that you might enjoy while sitting beside the Lochsa or Clearwater: there are many pullouts and places to stop.
