Missouri RRR
Warrenton, MoMay 21-23, 2014 |
This ride is approx., 500 miles long. It is 'Big Bike' friendly. IF you are comfortable riding long stretches of gravel of varying depth, and crossing small streams. There could be some mud holes. If rain is forecast, bring knobbies. The route will be approx. 70% easy gravel roads. And 30% paved. Gas stops are about 80-100 miles apart, so please plan accordingly. Having a GPS with the route/track loaded, and knowing how to use it is a must. We will post GPX files and a final route file in the spring. |

Tuesday, May 20, 2014 Everyone should be in the area the evening of Tuesday, May 20, 2014 either camping or staying at the host hotel listed below. That way you can be gassed up, fed and ready to roll early on day 1 at 7:30am. Oh...and eat some killer BBQ and hang with the other riders at Two Dudes BBQ! From Kevin: I spoke with Tina. (or you can ask for Dave) Standard room is 42.00 or 52.00 for the Deluxe They will offer a discount depending on the number of rooms we reserve. ( tell them what group you are with) Plenty of parking for trailers. I have not stayed here before, but the online reviews looked decent. Dinner: @ Two Dudes BBQ

This is the first riding day. About 240 miles which is a lot for dirt and gravel so be ready to saddle up and go early. Now I know early means a lot of different things but in my case it means rolling by 7:30am at the latest. We'll be leaving from the host hotel, Americas Best Value Inn at 7:30am! From Kevin: I spoke with the Manager. He is the guy that sets up the swinging bridge stay and is familiar with our type of riders.. Rooms will be 66.00 if you tell them you are with the Motorcyle Touring Forum group. Have stayed here every year for the swinging bridges ride. A clean and decent place. (nothing fancy)

Thursday, May 22, 2014 Second riding day. Approximately 182 miles. From Kevin: Ask for Sharon or Beth Rooms are 55.00 for a single or 60.00 plus tax for 2 peaple to a room. They have a restaurant on site that sounded good! (country fried steak and other goodies!) They also serve breakfast. The Restaurant closes at 7P.M.. So this might not work if we drag in late. As always, tell them you are with the Motorcycle Touring Forum for a group Discount. I stayed here recently during my last ride.(the Pucky Huddle Breakfast ride) It is a clean family owned country hotel. The owners go home early, they leave the keys under the mat!

Rider Safety and Responsibilities
In addition to requiring the use of a DOT approved helmet on all MTF rides, the MTF RRR Committee strongly encourages the use of Motorcycle specific protective clothing and footwear while participating in any off road event. ATGATT reduces the severity of injuries in an accident and we want every participant in our events to be as safe as possible.
The MTF RRR Committee strongly encourages each participant in our events to self assess their riding style, interests, need for breaks and riding skill level and to keep that assessment in mind when choosing a riding partner or small group (2-4 riders) to ride with at our events. Sharing the road with someone of similar interests and riding style not only makes the ride more enjoyable for you, but safer for everyone.
The third part of safety when riding in remote areas is knowing where you are and how to get out. For this reason each rider should have a GPS device with the routes loaded and be familiar with it's operation and use. Being lost in a maze of endless gravel and dirt roads as darkness descends is a safety issue both for yourself and those who will have to search for you.
