Safety
- Don't be a victim of the dry climate -- carry lots of water DOT approved helmets are REQUIRED during all MTF rides. The MTF strongly encourages the use of motorcycle specific protective clothing and footwear while participating in any MTF ride. All-the-gear-All-the-time (ATGATT) reduces the severity of injuries in an accident. We want every participant in our rides to be as safe as possible. Also the MTF strongly encourages each participant in our events to self assess their riding style, interests, need for breaks and riding skill level and to keep that assessment in mind when choosing a riding partner or small group (2-4 riders) to ride with at our events. Sharing the road with someone of similar interests and riding style not only makes the ride more enjoyable for you, but safer for everyone. |

Ten Fun Things to do in the Big Bend area texasoutside.com Big Bend
The nearly abandoned quicksilver mining town of Terlingua, Texas,
became a charming desert community after Frank X Tolbert's 1966 articles in the Dallas Morning News that resulted in the 1967 Terlingua Chili Cookoff.
Much of the history is obscured by the passage of time.
Sports Illustrated posted a 1967 article on the 1967 chili cookoff.
Texas Monthly posted a 1992 article on the Dallas connection to the Terlingua Chili Cookoff.
"What I recall is a late 1967 Tolbert article in the Dallas Morning News about drive testing a new Oldsmobile Cutlass.
In the article, Tolbert described driving the car to Big Bend NP and attending the annual Chili Appreciation Society International chili cookoff in Terlingua, Texas. He included an address for the CASI for readers who might want to enter the 1968 cookoff with the stipulation that all entries had to be received in January. When he received numerous entries, he told his friends at the Baker Hotel bar that they should hold a 1968 cookoff.
The 50 year tradition at Terlingua started out as a joke and became a tradition. - Bob Fisher - 2017"
