Safety

In addition to requiring the use of a DOT approved helmet on all MTF rides, the MTF Flower Sniff'n Committee strongly encourages the use of Motorcycle specific protective clothing and footwear while participating in any Flower Sniff'n event. All-the-gear-All-the-time (ATGATT) reduces the severity of injuries in an accident and we want every participant in our events to be as safe as possible.

Also the MTF Flower Sniff'n Committee strongly encourages each participant in our events to self assess their riding style, interests, need for breaks and riding skill level and to keep that assessment in mind when choosing a riding partner or small group (2-4 riders) to ride with at our events. Sharing the road with someone of similar interests and riding style not only makes the ride more enjoyable for you, but safer for everyone.

Suggested Flower Sniff'n Routes

Route

Route Description

There's a lot to see in Nova Scotia. Staying in Baddeck highlights just a small portion. But first you have to get there.

From the U.S. this means either riding from Maine, through New Brunswick to Nova Scotia or taking The CAT ferry from Bar Harbor Maine to Yarmouth Nova Scotia. The ferry is actually the longer route, by about 2 hours, plus you have the cost of the ferry. But it leaves you in Southern Nova Scotia for the road trip up to Baddeck. This might be the way to go if you want to stop at Peggy's Cove Lighthouse. If you take the ferry, they will provide straps for securing your motorcycle but you might want to take your own as theirs are not the cleanest.

And if you really want an adventure, consider a trip over to Prince Edward Island via the Confederation Bridge or by Ferry, as well as a trip by Ferry over to Newfoundland and Labrador!

FYI, while Maine is in the Eastern Time Zone, most of the Canadian Maritime Provinces are in the Atlantic Time Zone which is one hour earlier than the Eastern Time Zone. The exception is Newfoundland and Labrador (one Province despite having two names) which is in the Newfoundland Time Zone which is an additional half hour earlier.

All POIs are included as waypoints in the GPX file.

"The Baddeck Gathering" Ceilidh - A ceilidh is a kitchen party where everyone is welcome to perform if they wish. From the very beginning, teachers and students from the nearby Gaelic College dropped by to play the fiddle or the bagpipes, to dance or to tell stories. Visitors from as far away as Australia have come back night after night to enjoy the music and to perform. Tourists who never thought they could, have found themselves mastering the art of the square dance or sharing a particular talent with the audience.
