Motorcycle Rider Training
The MTF is committed to motorcycle safety and through the efforts of Don Kime Safety Director have arranged for Experienced Rider Training, Basic Dirt Bike Training, and Advanced Dirt Bike Training as a prelude to the 2009 Founders Feast. The MTF will provide a rebate to participants who successfully pass the course as outlined below.
We conducted (2) polls as part of the FF (Founders Feast) planning to determine member interest in training opportunities - Poll 1 - Poll 2. The results of these polls indicated a lot of member interest in training, and we have developed a number of training opportunities for MTF participants ahead of the FF.
We have arranged for (2) ERC's (Experienced Rider Courses) and (1) Basic Dirt Riding course in Troy, OH, on Tuesday, 6/9/09. We have arranged for a 2nd Basic Dirt course in Troy on Wednesday afternoon, 6/10/09. We have also arranged for an Advanced Dirt riding course on Wednesday at the Abate of Indiana Off-Road park in Springville, IN, which is near Bloomington, Bedford, and Spring Mill in Indiana. Spring Mill is the state park that will be headquarters for the FF. This array of courses will meet more than 90+% of the polled need stated by MTF members, and will even allow taking all 3 courses (there was 1 request). The Basic Dirt class is an excellent introduction to transitioning from street riding to RRRiding. You will be well prepared from this course to participate in the RRR at the FF. The Advanced Dirt class is for riders who have been RRRiding and want to refine their skills. It is permissible to take the Basic course followed by the Advanced Course. The ERC requires a motorcycle endorsement on your license, a street legal insured motorcycle, and 6 months of riding is recommended. The bike will be required to pass an inspection. The Advanced Dirt class will be done on your dual sport bike. Off-road bikes will be provided for the Basic Dirt class.
You might ask, "Why are most of the courses being offered in Troy, OH?" Troy is north and east of Spring Mill on I-75, and, depending upon your route, is about 200mi from Spring Mill. For MTFers, that's way less than a lunch run! The instructor pool in OH is much larger than IN, and this is very important in staffing weekday classes. Our knowledge of the OH program offers additional influence/control over getting the right instructors. We will have some of the top OH instructors for all of our couses. Overall, the OH program is much more highly regarded on a quality basis than the Abate/IN program. The Advanced Dirt class will be held in Indiana near Spring Mill because Abate has a wonderful off-road park facility there. However, we will be using OH instructors for that course as well.
You asked for courses, we got you courses, and now you need to sign up and enroll in the courses! As part of registering for the FF (start here), you will be provided information on signing up and regisering for the courses. All are offered on a first come, first served basis. PLEASE NOTE: Indicating that you will take the courses during FF registration does not register you for the Troy courses. From registering, you will be given information to contact MSF-Troy directly to register for the courses. You will have to call and provide them complete information (name, date, time) on the course you're registering for, and you will have to pay for the courses before you're fully registered. (Please do not provide the Troy contact info to any 3rd party not registered for the FF. These courses are for participating MTF members). Please note from the MTF MC Rider Training web page, you will be reimbursed for most or all of your course registration fees upon successful completion. MTF is really supporting getting it's members trained! Be sure and take advantage!
If there are any questions or needed discussion regarding the Rider Training, please read & post in this thread on the MTF,
